Is the free plugin actually usable, or is it a trial?

Free is a complete store engine — orders, payments, customers, tax, shipping, coupons. It is not time-limited and does not stop working. Pro adds the 35 add-ons; it does not unlock basic operation.

What happens to my store if I let Pro lapse?

The store keeps running. Add-ons pause — their data and settings stay untouched and they resume the moment the license is active again.

Which payment methods are in the free core?

Stripe, PayPal, Cash on Delivery, Bank Transfer, Check, Manual, and Net Terms — all seven ship in Free, none are Pro-gated.

Can I extend Ambikly without forking it?

Yes — a documented REST API, WP-CLI commands, and an Addon SDK (the same base class every one of the 35 Pro add-ons is built on) are meant for exactly that.
